Advice for those Looking to Strike Out on Their Own and Purchase a Pharmacy

Chris Cella, VP of RxOwnership, on how Trumm Drug’s change in ownership was a good model to follow.

In this clip, which was filmed this week at the McKesson ideaShare Conference in Orlando, Chris Cella, VP of RxOwnership, discusses Trumm Drug, and how it's change in ownership in 2018 affected their business. He also offers some pearls for pharmacists interested in taking over pharmacies that are on the market.

Transcript: So with Trumm, it was kind of unique because the 2 new owners Al and Aaron actually worked for the pharmacy. So the customers were already familiar with their faces. When they actually took over ownership, the old owners stayed on board to help with the transition, so it was the same customers, the same owner, the same faces they saw behind the counter all the time, so that transtion was very easy and very uniform. That's what you're looking for. At RxOwnership, we advise the new owners: "don't go in an make a bunch of changes, don't do a bunch of remodels, don't change the name of pharmacy, those are processes that need to be done over a period of time. You want to go in, get settled, get some air cover, get the store under your feet, work through the proceses, and then make decisions as you go along, with small changes."
