Pet Peeves
Our monthly round-up of pharmacy-related annoyances.
How the Other Half Lives. A state Medicaid patient wants to get an early refill so that he can go on vacation to Hawaii. How can he afford a trip like that?
When E-Prescribing Isn’t Fast Enough. Patients who fail to understand that e-prescribing systems often have a delay of 15 to 30 minutes before we receive the prescription. Patients come in requesting a prescription and say, “The doctor sent it over electronically.” Unfortunately, the system is not instantaneous!
Bimonthly Baffler. I have a patient who has a fixed copay of $30 for a month supply of his meds but insists on paying $15 for a 15-day supply.
Rx Irresponsible. Having to search for a patient’s primary care physician (PCP) because the ER doc, hospitalist, specialist, or doc-in-the-box doesn’t want to follow up on his or her own prescription. Even worse—when the patient can’t tell you who the PCP is!
