Alexandria, VA – October 17, 2024 – The Center for Innovation & Value Research (Center), a non-profit research organization committed to advancing the science, practice, and use of health technology assessment (HTA) in healthcare, has released a new learning report, “Patient Journey Mapping to Inform Economic Impacts,” based on the first workshop of a six-part series for the Patient-Centered Impacts Project.
The report highlights how patient journey mapping can reveal the full spectrum of economic challenges patients and caregivers face, encouraging researchers and funders to incorporate patient perspectives into their methodologies to better capture the actual cost of healthcare.

“Healthcare costs go beyond the obvious medical bills. The time patients and caregivers lose navigating the system is a hidden economic burden that needs to be measured and addressed,” said Jason Spangler, CEO of the Center. “Understanding the full patient experience can create more equitable, patient-centered research and ultimately improve healthcare outcomes.”
Registration is now open for the second virtual workshop in the series, “Time is Money: Capturing Time Effects of Economic Impacts.” This workshop will feature expert speakers, including Tina Aswani-Omprakash, MPH, President & Co-Founder of the South Asian IBD Alliance, Beth Gore, CEO of the Oley Foundation, and Casey Quinn, PhD, Senior Advisor for Patient-Centered Economic Outcomes, Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI).
