EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

At the completion of this activity, the participant will be able to:

  • Explore the most recent data on HIV burden including the issues surrounding antiretroviral therapy (ART)
  • Examine the most recent updates to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) guidelines for ART and the current focus to overcome medication tolerability and improve adherence
  • Employ updates to HHS guidelines to appropriately select ART while addressing barriers to adherence such as weight gain, neuropsychiatric tolerability, and polypharmacy
  • Optimize the role of the pharmacist in improving outcomes of patients on HIV treatment along with preventing transmission
