If Americans could cut their salt intake in half, 150,000 deaths a year from stroke, heart attack, and high blood pressure?related illnesses could be prevented.
That announcement came recently from the American Public Health Association. The 125-year old association has begun a campaign to get food companies and restaurateurs to reduce the salt content of their products by 50% over the next 10 years. The FDA?s recommended daily sodium intake comes to about a teaspoon.
The average American consumes nearly twice that amount.
