Todd Brothers, PharmD, BCCCP, BCPS: I see the pharmacist role kind of being two-fold, the first being the acute phase in a hospital setting. A pharmacist can participate in code situations to make sure providers have access to the life-saving medication, as well as following treatment algorithms. And then a second phase is, and probably the more important phase, is the chronic and the recurrence phase, that being you want to make sure that patients aren’t continuously exposed to having hyperkalemia, and having poor clinical and economic outcomes.
