Julienne Tran, PharmD, FAPhA, improves patient care by providing pharmacists with tools and knowledge they can use in their daily practice.
A clinical programs specialist for Ahold USA, Inc, Dr. Tran elevates the level of patient care for Giant and Stop & Shop pharmacies by developing programs covering blood glucose screening, cholesterol, and glycated hemoglobin testing.
Her support of clinician pharmacists prompted Dr. Tran to create twicemonthly newsletters covering immunizations and diabetes care. She also expanded Stop and Shop’s Massachusetts Emergency Contraceptive Program to approximately 30 stores, while also securing physician protocols for the program.
Dr. Tran is a certified instructor for the American Pharmacists Association’s Patient-Centered Diabetes Care course and actively works to change the way pharmacists approach their diabetes care. Her 2013 training sessions increased pharmacists’ knowledge and increased their confidence in counseling on therapy, diet, and how to use meters.
She also coordinated the launch of travel clinics in Pennsylvania, securing the necessary registrations, training, and procedures for pharmacists. The clinics offered pretravel consultations, immunizations, and preventive prescription medications.
An active advocate for Ahold USA’s immunization efforts, Dr. Tran directly supports in-store immunizations. Her leadership resulted in a 300% increase in flu clinic revenue, and a 37% increase in Zostavax immunizations.
In addition to her work for Ahold USA, Dr. Tran served as clinical adjunct faculty at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, where she taught an advanced pharmacy management lab for third- and fifth-year pharmacy students. She also served as an academic preceptor at the school, which involved mentoring sixth-year pharmacy students for a corporate management elective. Dr. Tran also mentors sixth-year pharmacy students as an adjunct clinical assistant professor at Northeastern University.
