Suspected Pharmacy Robber Uses Bizarre Ruse

The suspect in a pharmacy robbery says she was forced to commit the crime because her daughter’s life was threatened.

Tammy Charles allegedly tried to steal oxycodone and Xanax from a Walgreens pharmacy in Fort Wayne, Indiana, on December 28, 2015, WISHTV reported.

A pharmacist called the police around 7 PM to inform them that a woman had handed the pharmacy staff a note demanding pills and was still standing at the counter. When police arrived, Charles was taken into custody.

Charles told police that she received her daughter’s hand (literally) in the mail that morning. The package also contained a note that said if Charles did not rob the pharmacy, she would receive her daughter’s head in the mail the next day, WISHTV reported.

The note that Charles gave the pharmacy staff said she needed the pharmacy’s supply of oxycodone and Xanax. The demand note also warned that there were 2 men in the store with guns.

However, police did not find any suspects in the pharmacy, WISHTV reported.

Charles said her daughter was staying with a friend and would not reveal her name.

The police determined that the daughter was safe and that Charles had used the story as a ruse, WISHTV reported.

The woman was arrested and has been charged with armed robbery and intimidation.
