Naloxone Availability and Its Role in the Opioid Epidemic

One of the goals that all pharmacists should have in working with a patient who has an addiction problem is to try to get that patient into a treatment program to help them with their addiction. A patient who has died of an opioid overdose can’t enter a treatment program, that’s too late. So I think that the public is making an ethically responsible decision in trying to make naloxone more available to patients so that we can reduce the amount of harm they are facing and get them hopefully to that treatment stage.
