THE FACE OF NEIGHBOORHOOD HEALTH

The National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) recently reminded members of the US Senate Finance Committee of the important role played by pharmacy in improving lives and making health care more efficient and affordable.

In its Principles of Healthcare Reform, NACDS spotlights pharmacy?s ability to improve the accessibility, affordability, and quality of patient care. Release of the principles continues the association?s emphasis on the role of pharmacies as "the face of neighborhood health care." They were provided for the committee?s special May hearing, "Seizing the New Opportunity for Health Reform," the first in a series of hearings planned as the committee prepares for the national debate over health reform.

"Utilizing these principles, NACDS will continue to speak out when public policy threatens pharmacy," noted NACDS President and Chief Executive Officer Steven Anderson, IOM, CAE. "NACDS will continue to work with Congress to ensure the value of pharmacy is contemplated in any effort to achieve the opportunities for health care reform at this unique time."
