Atorvastatin May Help with Alzheimer's Disease
A study of 63 individuals with mild-to-moderateAlzheimer's disease found that they benefitedfrom taking atorvastatin. Those taking the statinshowed less decline on memory tests and brainfunction, compared with individuals who did nottake the medication.
In 2000, the researchers reviewed 56,000patient records in a database and discoveredthat patients on statins were 70% less likely to bediagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, comparedwith those who were not. Also, more recently,similar studies have found a lower rate ofAlzheimer's disease in patients taking statins.
